World Rotaract Week Celebrations

The Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town partnered up with the Rotaract Club of Ottway all the way from Australia taking fellowship and service above self across borders this year for ‘World Rotaract Week Celebrations’.The project was based on a very simple idea of ‘Home Gardening”. During World Rotaract Week in 2021, we wanted to celebrate fellowship along with service. So the initiative was taken forward with a couple of members from both clubs who volunteered to carry our home garden in their backyards. Ten members from the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town and 3 members from the Rotaract Club of Ottway came forward to plant trees in their backyards at home taking one step closer to being self-sustainable for their daily food requirements.

Voice of the Eye

“Voice of the Eye” is a Global Speech Competition, organized in order to create a platform for people to be a voice for eye donations for the blind. Hence, the topic of the competition was “An Appeal for Eye Donation”. The initiators of the project were “The Project Vision”, an Indian-based community service organization dedicated to supporting the visually impaired community. The speech contest was held in two stages. Under the first stage, participants had to record a 90-second video of themselves making a speech under the topic “An Appeal for an Eye Donation”, and submit the video to the given link 25th of November 2020, for which, 400+ entries were received. Then, a finalist was selected from each country to participate in the Grand Finals, which was held live virtually, on the 3rd of December. Rtr. Venisha Dewasurendra, the finalist representing Sri Lanka, emerged as the winner of the Global Speech Contest. The top three winners were given attractive cash prizes, and all participants were given E-Certificates.
