The Fellowship Dinner was the first initiation by the Mid Town Club Service team as part of the monthly outings that is to happen every month for the year 2020-21.
The Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town, wanted to focus on it’s membership growth and retention this year as we all know a club’s main strength is it’s human resources. Therefore, from June 2020 onwards the Club Service team and Vice Presidents focussed on multiple avenues of attracting vibrant individuals from various industries, university based clubs, corporates, other partner organizations and through social media platforms. This was a continuous project which took place throughout the year.
The installation ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town was held on the 19th of July 2020. Even though, the club had the transition meeting, and in spite of the Covid-19 situation of the country, the board decided to go the extra mile and pull together an installation ceremony that would allow the entire Rotaract movement to witness the collaring of the 41st President, Rotaractor Dina Ali.
Rotaract 101 is a Club Service initiative which took place this year for the 4th time around. This is a workshop based project which is based on sharing mandatory and basic information to members of the movement to ensure a smooth flow. This year the project was live broadcasted from Home Tree Co-working space who came on-board as the ‘Official Partner’ and was broadcasted live via YouTube.
On the 7th of November, a much-needed virtual meet-up was executed for fellowship and engagement purposes for the general membership. The meet-up took place via the Zoom Video Conferencing platform and consisted of two sub-projects, namely: The Fitness challenge where the participant was expected to perform a maximum number of pushups within sixty seconds and spell T20 was essentially a spelling bee competition with a cricket match like scoring system.
Sunday Funday Retreat is a club service initiative with the intention of membership retention and a fellowship gathering for the members during the transition month of June as we come towards the conjunction of the year end and beginning of the new Rotaract year. The project was held on Sunday, the 28th of June 2020 hence the name. Before the beginning of the year the general members were introduced to the incoming Board of Directors of the club via games and fellowship. This was done with the hope of an ice breaker for the new year.
Staying true to what we Midtowners know best, we embarked on a journey to join hands with our friends from the hills and the North. This is a regional engagement initiative under the Club Service avenue to strengthen the bonds between our clubs and to support each other throughout the year.
For the second consecutive year, the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town organized RDPL 2021, which stands for Rotaract Dota Premier League jointly with the Rotaract Club of Colombo Fort. This project took place from the 12th to the 18th of April 2021. Introducing the first-ever league-based competition with a voting system and team owners to Rotaract District 3220 last year, we followed the same format. The auction took place on the 12th of April 2021, where Rtr. IPP Sathma, Rtr. IPP Vidushit, Rtr. Rashmika and Rtr. Miyuru battled with each other to form their clan from 20 players in the tournament.
This year the President along with her Board of Directors took the path of strengthening the club’s membership base and taking measures to retain existing members of the club. Every month the Club Service Team took the initiative to plan gatherings for the general membership of the club. Even during the lockdown virtual meet-ups were ensured.
The Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town is known for its fellowship and vibrant members who know to have some good fun. With that in mind, how could we let the season of merry go past us without a Mid Town party. The Club Service team organized a grand ‘Christmas Party 2020’ at the Global Towers. The Christmas party started early in the evening and went on till midnight. The party had a lot of Christmas goodies, lunch and dinner planned for the members.
This year the Public Image team undertook numerous initiatives to spread the word about the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town and Rotaract as a whole. One of them is through the use of the merchandise. The Public Image team launched branded club t-shirts, Bison’s sports jerseys and Bison’s hoodies for the general membership of the club.
Every three years, Rotarians meet at the Council on Legislation to review and vote on proposed changes to the legislation that governs Rotary. They consider enactments, which change Rotary’s governing documents, and position statements by the RI Board.
