About Rotaract Mid Town
"We are the 3rd oldest club in the district currently and the oldest continuing active rotaract club in the rotaract district"
It all started as great stories are apt to begin, over food. Or as we like to say over a cup of hot Sri Lankan tea (the aphrodisiac of beginnings…just ask the Chinese who started kingdoms over a cup of hot tea and this stuff they don’t even teach in history books…sigh) but to continue…chocolate cake at Green cabin many years ago, when a group of young people chaired by PDG Sha Razaqk decided to birth a new member into the Mid Town family.
The Rotaract Club of Colombo Midtown is first of all a family. A member of the Midtown Rotary family and a family within itself. We have had many ups and downs like any family but we have grown and gone from strength to strength thanks to the tireless efforts of many hardworking and dedicated rotaractors throughout the history of our club.
"Rotary members to recognize the positive change implemented by youth and young adults as the fifth avenue of service"
Rotaract originally began as a Rotary International youth program in 1968 at Charlotte North Rotary Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States, and has grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organization of over 9,522 clubs spread around the world and 291,006 members. It is a service, leadership, professional and community service organization (often miscommunication as a Social Service Club) for young men and women between the ages 18–30 (membership will end upon reaching 31 years of age).
Rotaract focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world.
